About Us
Thanks for your interest in RTA!
RTA members can be anyone who enjoys riding or hiking. Together with the Township, we work to preserve the rural atmosphere of Readington through establishing and maintaining many miles of beautiful trails throughout the township. We also work to educate members, the local horse community, and emergency responders about equine health, safety and emergency planning.
RTA was established in 1994. We have been designated as a 501c3 for many years as a subgroup of the Coalition For Animals. In 2026, we were awarded our own 501c3 non-profit status.
In addition to to maintaining the existing trail network, we seek to form a contiguous trail network while supporting the agricultural heritage of the land using both open space and private land access granted to us by private landowners. As an organization of responsible citizens, we maintain a general liability insurance policy for our members and gracious landowners. Yearly dues is used to pay for insurance, trail maintenance, trail and road signage, public relations, supplies and member events. Through annual donations, we also support Readington's 4 firehouses, police and rescue squad, as well as other local non-profit organizations such as NJ Animeals, Mylestone Equine Rescue and more.
Our members span a diverse spectrum of disciplines from pleasure riding, trail riding, hiking, fox hunting, dressage and driving, to competitive trail and more!
