RTA Members Compete in 30 mile Competitive Trail Ride
The ride was held at Fair Hill,MD Chesapeake Natural Resource area on Sept 20, 2008. In addition oto the 30 mile competetive trail ride, they also held a 50,80 and 100 mile endurance ride and a ride and tie from Fri-Sun.
Renee and Keriann went down on Friday and vetted out that night. It was cold but Saturday, the day of the event, proved to be beautiful and sunny. Renee and Keriann started out first as #1 and #2, and both did a very fast ride in 5 hours flat.
There were many water crossings some pretty deep, lots of bridges, highway crossings and even a covered bridge. The ride covered absolutely beautiful country, rolling hills, fields, and technical trails. On one sections, Competitors ride past these unbelievably huge cross country jumps as there is a cross country course, a turf track and steeplechase track. Fair Hill is a world class facility with stabling for the horses.
The ride crew provides a wonderful pot luck dinner each night and breakfast in the morning. Renee and Keriann reported that the ride was exilerating and exhausting at the same time. There are 3 divisions plus Jrs. Keriann placed 6th in the lightweight with a 94 out of 100 and Renee placed 6th in the middleweight with a 92and 1/2 out of 25 riders.
